Pawn structure memory means learning the pawn shapes your openings produce, and the plans that go with each, instead of long lists of moves.

Pawns move slowly and never go back, so the shape an opening leaves lasts into the middlegame. The same shape comes from several openings and carries the same plans, so one structure learned helps in many games.
How to do it
- 1After the opening, look at the pawns alone and name the structure.
- 2Recall the plan for that structure: which pawn break, which file, which squares for your pieces.
- 3Study one structure at a time, with the openings that reach it.
